Your Guide to Wedding Weather (UK Edition)

Let's start with the unexpected and end by embracing whatever comes your way.

Always Have a Plan B

In case of the unexpected, your wedding venue will likely guide you through their standard plan B. Make sure they do and that you're happy with their backup plan. Tying the knot inside may not have been your dream, but it can still look beautiful if the venue is confident in recreating your outdoor setup within four walls.

Engage in early discussions with venues about contingency plans, as their response could significantly impact your decision.

Stay Chic (and Dry) in the Rain

Have you seen how magical wedding portraits look in the rain? We've seen some really stunning ones over the years. But these super chic snaps are only possible if you're willing to embrace the rain and prepare for it. This means stylish umbrellas on hand for you and your guests, along with waterproof makeup and hair products. Obviously you'll already have waterproof mascara on hand, but the rest of the kit needs to be rainproof too.

You should also suggest to your guests that they bring waterproof shoes, or provide something fun for everyone to change into. Although that will likely mean ordering a lot of wellies...

Keep Your Cool

Contrary to popular belief, it's not rain clouds and drizzle all year round in the UK. In fact, as we type, we're sweltering in nearly 30-degree heat. If well-planned, this temperature could be ideal for a wedding. However, if the heat is not properly managed, it could become quite uncomfortable.

If you're expecting hot weather on your wedding day, schedule the ceremony earlier to avoid the heat, especially if its outside. Ensure there is ample fresh drinking water for you and your guests (please note that wine or beer does not count), and confirm that some sheltered areas are available.

Prepare for Mild Tornados

We're not expecting the Great Storm of '87 to befall your wedding day (too old a reference?), but strong winds are a distinct possibility. Marquees, outdoor tables and hairstyles are all vulnerable to sweeping winds and need to be weighted down - or hairsprayed.

If you or your bridal party would rather not plaster your hair in Elnett, perhaps opt for an elegant updo or a textured style that'll stay in place whatever the weather. If you have any paper stationery, place cards, or any items that could be blown away, be sure to not keep them outside, or clip them to something.

Make it a Part of Your Wedding Story

Throwing your fist in the sky and damning the gods of weather for your misfortune will not stop the rain from falling. So just embrace whatever is thrown your way. Have fun in the rain, weigh Granny down, and pop your shades on for some stylish shots under the sun.
