If there are three words that sum up what a wedding dress should be then ‘flattering, beautiful and timeless’ are a good place to start. Funnily enough – those words also happen to sum up one of our favourite and most elegant labels, Ellis Bridals.
As the UK’s oldest bridal label, Ellis have been designing for British brides since Ada Ellis made her own wedding gown in 1910 and the business remains in the family to this day.
I love the idea that Ada started the business by creating bespoke dresses for London aristocracy and once she made her own wedding gown – demand for her bridal designs took over.
The company is now run by the lovely Barry and Regine Waterman and son James and I have loved and stocked their designs since we first opened the doors of Bellissima Weddings, 15 years ago. They are an incredibly supportive company and we love working with them – visiting their London HQ is always a genuine treat.
The company have managed to take all those years of experience and style and continually reinvent and refresh their designs.
Ellis Bridals has its own ‘look’ – it’s a combination of contemporary styling and shades mixed with uber-flattering cuts and fine details, topped off with vintage touches and that sprinkle of romantic magic that every bride needs on her big day.
Unmistakably British, sometimes quirky, always simply beautiful – this year, Ellis Bridals are working with a new design team and I for one can’t wait to see what direction they go in.
If you’re looking for separates or a simpler, softer silhouette, Ellis may also have the design for you and it’s great to have a design house offer these options to our brides.
With over 100 years of design experience and style, it’s a really good job I don’t have access to their archives as I’d adore pouring over the different designs and styles they have used over the century – in fact, if I was let loose with them, I probably wouldn’t get any work done for days… imagine being lost in 100 years of tulle, lace and twinkles…heaven!
Ellis Bridals sum up their ethos really well, ‘Your wedding dress should feel like you; a design that quintessentially expresses and enhances your individual beauty’. I love that – to my mind it is bang on the money and exactly what we love to help our brides-to-be find at Bellissima Weddings.
