Which Wedding Dress Designer do I choose?
Your partner popped the question, you said yes, and now you’re engaged! Congratulations! It’s a big moment, and you’re kicking off a very special time in your lives. But what should you do after you get engaged? The first steps you take after your engagement will really set you up for a successful wedding planning process. From the fun and exciting to the nitty-gritty. Now Which Wedding Dress Designer?
We would say (and we’re not being biased here!) you should think about your wedding dress after you’ve chosen the venue! Its very important! Lets be honest, its one of the main things we think about when you imagine your wedding so you want to get it right. Choosing a designer you like early on can be a great place to start, and you might not go with that particular brand in the end but it will help you to understand what styles are out there – we can do the rest on your appointment!
We have broken down just some of our brands in-store at Bellissima Weddings and given you a little introduction to each – along with some pics!
A relative newcomer to the bridal scene, the brand has been going from strength to strength under the amazing eye of Creative Director Kang Chun Lin (or KC as he’s known) since it started in 2006. Known for being able to cleverly combine innovative, high fashion looks with rich detail and a truly high-end fit and finish – Enzoani dresses really are something else. They are fans of ours too because we are the only shop in the world to have won ‘Platinum Retailer Status’ with them four years in a row!
With design styles from sweeping romantic gowns with epic, breath-taking trains to stunning curve-huggers and modern, vibrant cuts and shades, Enzoani has, quite simply, a dress for every bride.
What’s more, the label have made sure they are able to offer styles for brides of all budgets. The ‘Beautiful‘ and ‘Blue‘ ranges are more affordable and accessible but are still high quality showstoppers and can be a great option if you need a gown in a hurry. A wedding dress designer with every bride in mind!

If there are three words that sum up what a wedding dress should be then ‘flattering, beautiful and timeless’ are a good place to start. As the UK’s oldest and most respected bridal label, the designers at Ellis Bridals have constantly reinvented and refreshed their collections year on year – ensuring that they are always current, always on trend and always popular.
Ellis have been designing for British brides since Ada Ellis made her own wedding gown in 1910 and the business remains in the family to this day. I love the fact that that Ada Ellis started the business by creating bespoke dresses for London aristocracy and once she made her own wedding gown – demand for her bridal designs took over. The company is now run by the lovely Barry and Regine Waterman and son James and I have loved and stocked their designs since we first opened the doors of Bellissima Weddings, over 15 years ago. They are an incredibly supportive company and we love working with them – visiting their London HQ is always a genuine treat.
The company have managed to take all those years of experience and style and continually reinvent and refresh their designs. An award-winning wedding dress designer with true style & originality.

For ornate lace and incredibly stunning beaded gowns, Kenneth Winston packs some serious punch. Design changes are available on many of the styles as well, so if you’ve got something specific in mind, this could be the label for you.
The ‘Private Label by G’ bridal collection has been in the same family for 30 years and the incredibly talented brothers Ken and Winston Yeh are now the design duo behind the respected southern Californian label their parents established. Known in the industry for the most divine, intricate beading, use of textures and ornate lace work, the Kenneth Winston collection is unashamedly romantic and offers a range of dress silhouettes to suit every bride.
If the words ‘mermaid’, ‘trumpet’ and ‘ruffle’ send you into a mini bridal frenzy then you’re looking at the right collection. Slim and sexy fit and flare dresses are just one of the looks this label gets absolutely bang on. That said, Kenneth Winston also perfects the full-skirted and dreamy, with ‘A’ line and ball gown dresses to rival some seriously high-end competition (but without the OMG price tag to match!).

All designed ‘with the classic romantic bride in mind’, Maggie Sottero designs are renowned for their fit. The company has over four generations of experience and is one of the most recognised bridal design houses in the world. Their famous corset was a total revelation when it first hit shops and brides raved about how amazing the dresses felt and made them look. It was quite simply, a game-changer, and the fit has come to be known as ‘Maggie magic’.
We absolutely love Maggie Sottero designs but it is hard to sum up the ‘look’ of a Maggie gown in a few words as the collections are just so full of choice and cater for just about every look and taste a bride could want. It may be due to the international influence of having design studios in Australia and America which creates this multi-award winning choice.
Looking for a chic column gown, a floaty fishtail or a classic ball gown? With crystal encrusted lace overlay, modern detailing or just a stunning, sumptuous fabric? Maggie Sottero dresses should be on your list.

If ever there was a bridal designer who could turn their hand to just about any style of gown, then I have to say, Mori Lee’s Madeline Gardner would be it. From the traditionally elegant and classic gown to the modern, destination dress or an impeccably cut gown for the curvier bride, New York based Madeline just ‘gets’ what brides-to-be are looking for and does it with her eye on the cost without compromising the quality.
If you’re looking for a gown with a contemporary ‘on trend’ feel but that still maintains the essence of elegance, well, you might just have hit on it with Mori Lee – and I can say that with some authority as a former Mori Lee bride myself!
Born and bred in New Jersey and a graduate of the Fashion Institute of New York City, Madeline has designed for the company since 1985 and now creates bridal gowns to suit just about every style of ceremony and bride at her New York design studio.
Looking for a deeply romantic, floaty, lace gown with a train to die for? Mori Lee can oblige. Searching for a modern, boho but chic gown for a barefoot, island blessing? Mori Lee should be on your list. No idea what you want or what will suit you? This wedding dress designer is one of the best places to start.
