Your Dress Fittings & Alterations

At the time your order is placed, we will give you a rough idea of when we expect your dress to be delivered to us. Normally, we will ask our designers to deliver your gown 3 months before your wedding date. When your gown arrives with us, we check it and press it and then contact you to let you know that it's arrived. At that point, we'll book your first fitting with you. A comfortable time for your first fitting for all concerned is about 2 months before your wedding.

Most gowns will require some or other alteration but, of course, every case is different. It's at the first fitting that we will require your bill to be settled as we do not carry out any alterations on dresses that have not been paid for in full. Please note that alteration charges ARE NOT included in the price of your gown, and we will always try to give you an estimate of the likely cost of alterations when you are choosing your gown and we have a list of set charges on display in the shop.

The number of fittings varies from bride to bride. If a gown is made-to-measure, it may be that several fittings are required. If it has been made to special measurements and the bride has stayed the same shape, a single fitting may suffice. More often, a second and, occasionally, a third appointment is necessary, especially if your gown is a 'standard' dress size.
Please try to limit the number of people you bring to your fittings and, again, please do not bring children.

Each time you come for a fitting, you must remember to bring the shoes and underwear you will be wearing on the wedding day. The fitting cannot be carried out without them as they will naturally alter the fit of the gown. If you intend buying shoes or underwear from us, this can be done on the day of the fitting.

Owing to the high level of Bridal sales and fittings/ alterations for the 2010 season, we are unable to offer our in-house alteration service on our Bridesmaids dresses. However, we are happy to recommend four fantastic seamstresses tried and tested by us, who should be able to assist. Their contact details will be given to you when you place your Bridesmaids order with us.

Please also note that we cannot do fittings on Saturdays. So many people visit the shop on Saturdays that it is often very busy and it's impossible for you, or the person carrying out the fitting, to concentrate properly when the shop is crowded. We want to avoid having you standing in your gown in the middle of a busy shop as it reduces the risk of any accidental damage to your gown. Although we ask our customers to avoid bringing small children with them, sometimes it is unavoidable and there is always the danger that there might be a toddler running about. If you are able to attend the shop during the week in the daytime, this is a much better time to do fittings. Alternatively, we are open late on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings when we take our last appointment at eight o'clock and close at nine o'clock.
